Zuma corruption case is dropped

South Africa’s public prosecutor dropped corruption charges against Jacob Zuma on Monday, bringing to an end an eight-year investigation and clearing the way for the ANC leader to take up the presidency without the burden of legal charges hanging over him.

The news prompted wild celebrations by supporters of the governing African National Congress, two weeks before elections it is expected to dominate.
