On Wall Street: Helping hand could prolong subprime pain

Mortgage investors should be careful what they wish for this holiday season as plans to help stricken subprime borrowers and reduce the number of foreclosures could instead prolong the pain.

Such plans are likely to loom large in 2008 as presidential candidates jostle for position as champion of the US homeowner. Indeed, some are already under way.
