Nato report on Afghan strike boosts Germany

Germany’s most senior general on Thursday said he believed a Nato report into the bombing of two hijacked fuel tankers in northern Afghanistan last month showed that his soldiers had acted appropriately in ordering the strike.

General Wolfgang Schneiderhan, general inspector of the Bundeswehr, said his reading of the confidential Nato report left him with “no reason to doubt that German soldiers acted appropriately in military terms given the difficult situation”.
