Cuba scales down revolution party

Cuba has scaled down plans to mark Thursday’s 50th anniversary of the revolution that brought Fidel Castro to power.

The lower-key celebrations, to include just an hour-long official ceremony with no foreign leaders expected to attend, are more in keeping with the prevailing mood on an island battered by hurricanes this year and an economic slowdown.
