Google pins hopes on Android’s advance

The wait is over. On Tuesday Google unveiled the G1, the first smartphone powered by the internet search company’s Android open-source technology.

The 3G enabled G1 will go on sale in the US next month and will cost $179 with a T-Mobile voice and data plan – $20 less than Apple’s 3G iPhone. It will go on sale in the UK in November and other European countries early next year.
