A black year, but minnows show colours

It has been a year to forget for investors in companies, especially those who have invested in smaller companies. Not only have mid-cap shares plunged in value, they have fallen faster than those of larger companies – for the second year in succession.

The crisis in the financial markets has been the greatest in the past 50 years, but it is in such conditions that the toughest and most dynamic companies show their colours. Financial Times readers now have the chance to select the best among them by voting in the annual PLC Awards.
