Summers denies adopting Europe-style policy

The Obama administration on Friday launched a strong defence against claims it was engaged in European-style industrial policy, saying its interventions in the corporate sector were “temporary, based on market principles and minimally intrusive”.

Lawrence Summers, the president’s chief economic adviser, also told a Council on Foreign Relations conference that reform of financial sector capital and leverage rules would be a “central element” of its proposed overhaul of financial regulation.
