Tourists doing South America in six weeks often skip the daunting metropolis of São Paulo. It is their loss – underneath the seemingly endless urban sprawl and traffic frenzy, this is Brazil’s most dynamic city.

And for executives, it is the most important place in the country. São Paulo is the New York of South America, the centre of finance, banking, publishing and advertising. Like New York, it is a city of immigrants, perpetually on the hustle. But it is also a city that likes to work – and plays hard.
