German factory output surges

The volume of goods leaving German factories in May surged more than any month in nearly 16 years, adding to hopes that Europe’s largest economy is beginning to claw its way back from a deep recession.

Industrial production was 3.7 per cent higher in May than in April, the German economics ministry reported, although overall volumes were still 17.9 per cent below levels a year before.
