The Menie estate in Aberdeenshire used to be best known for the pheasant and duck shooting that it offered on a beautiful stretch of North Sea coastline. Now it has achieved worldwide fame as the site of a proposed £1bn ($1.6bn) golf resort planned by Donald Trump, the US property tycoon.
In June this year Mr Trump, who has Scottish ancestry, flew into Aberdeen to argue the case for the development at the planning inquiry that had been ordered into it. Although the local business community strongly backs the scheme for golf courses and luxury housing, it is opposed by conservation groups who say it would devastate a site of special scientific interest.
