The road that led Slovakia to the euro began more than five years ago, when the Slovak government approved the first important document regarding the adoption of the European Union’s common currency.

On July 16 2003 Ivan Miklos, the then finance minister, and Marian Jusko, national bank governor, submitted the strategy for adopting the euro to the government.
