Amicus breaks ranks by deciding to support Brown

Amicus, the largest private sector union, has thrown its support behind Gordon Brown as the next leader of the Labour party, calling for Tony Blair to resign immediately as prime minister.

It is the first large union to break ranks and declare its support for a potential candidate in a leadership contest. Amicus has the largest number of members affiliated to Labour.
