Conservatives put moral case for Europe trafficking convention

The Conservatives yesterday took the highly unusual step of urging the government to sign up to a European convention, arguing that it would help in the fight against people smuggling.

The European Convention on action against trafficking in human beings grants extensive residency rights to victims who are also illegal immigrants and could thus prove highly unpopular with Tory traditionalists.
