EU suspends aid to Honduras

The European Union suspended its budgetary support aid programme to Honduras on Monday after the breakdown of negotiations between the de facto government and representatives of the deposed president, Manuel Zelaya.

As Mr Zelaya announced plans to return home on Friday from exile to form a resistance movement, there were mounting concerns of violence. At least one protester was killed following Mr Zelaya’s first botched attempt to return by air two weeks ago following his overthrow in a coup last month.
