Kohn raises prospect of further rate cut

Don Kohn, Federal Reserve vice-chairman, yesterday indicated that he remained open to cutting US interest rates further but admitted that high energy and food prices might be passing through to core inflation.

Reaffirming the central bank's "risk management" approach to monetary policy, Mr Kohn said it was essential the Fed took fully into account "the possibility of very unfavourable developments".
