Singer's privacy victory challenged

A ruling on the privacy rights of a Canadian folk singer was "a triple whammy against freedom of expression", three judges were told yesterday.

Lawyers for Niema Ash, a former friend of singer Loreena McKennitt, made the claim as they opened an appeal against last year's decision which restricted publication of passages in Ms Ash's book about the celebrity.
