Germany ‘aiding prostitution during World Cup’

A leading US congressional human rights activist on Monday accused the German government of encouraging trafficking of women by “facilitating prostitution” for the World Cup soccer tournament it is hosting next month.

Chris Smith, Republican chair of the House of Representatives committee on human rights, urged President George W. Bush to raise the issue with Angela Merkel, the German chancellor, when they meet on Wednesday.
