Brown calls for IMF to warn on contagion

Gordon Brown will on Monday call for the International Monetary Fund to have a role in warning the world of financial contagion.

In a speech in which he will map out an expanded role for global institutions, the prime minister is also expected to propose that the IMF set up an insurance fund to help well-managed economies – particularly in developing countries – cope with the costs of a financial crisis that begins elsewhere in the world.
