US left behind in world women's rights ranking

The US is ranked 17th in a league table ranking women's position in society because weak maternity rights and state childcare provision have left many women struggling for equal economic opportunity, health and well-being.

The World Economic Forum, a Swiss-based think tank, published gender equality rankings to highlight the potential to improve women's economic, political, educational and health status in many economies.
