Fuel prices and harsh winter hit Japan car sales

Vehicle sales in Japan fell in 2005 for the second straight year and slumped 10 per cent in December, due to higher fuel prices and harsh winter weather in many parts of the country.

The decline in the world’s second-biggest vehicle market is prompting Japanese carmakers to offset the domestic slump by strengthening sales in the US this year.
