The Parma connection

Parma is not only famous for cheese (“Parmigiano”) and ham (“prosciutto”). It also seems to be something of a cradle of sophisticated financial fraud.

Parmalat, one of its biggest companies, found itself five Christmases ago at the heart of what at the time was considered one of the biggest ever frauds. The company’s founders and owners managed to fritter away as much as €14bn.
