McCreevy wants more players in audit

Top officials in Brussels are calling for measures to encourage new players to enter the audit profession, suggesting that this could require changes to the way firms can be owned and funded.

“In order to ensure a sustainable international audit market, more players are needed to meet the demand by international companies,” Charlie McCreevy, EU internal market commissioner, said on Tuesday as he announced a public consultation on the issue which will run until February.
