Proposed pan-European regulation of hedge funds and private equity is being introduced on the back of a “vague, sweeping and inadequate” analysis of the problem, according to a report prepared for European lawmakers.
A report by external consultants, looking into the impact that the legislation might have if passed in its original form, says the proposed rules would increase compliance costs for alternative fund managers to a much greater extent than the European Commission’s own assessment acknowledged.
