Shire drug given US regulatory push

Shire Pharmaceuticals, the speciality drug maker, will be able to break into a $1.2bn market sooner than expected after US regulators gave one of its therapies fast-track designation that could see the drug on the market by the second half of next year.

The company’s Velaglucerase-alpha drug is presently in its final stage clinical trials.
