An auction of new works by Damien Hirst, which are being offered to the public directly instead of through the artist's usual dealer and gallery, is expected to raise more than £65m, the auctioneers Sotheby's announced yesterday.
The September auction features 223 new works by Mr Hirst. The sale's centrepiece is "The Golden Calf", a sculpture of a bull in formaldehyde whose hooves and horns are cast in 18-carat solid gold, and which is expected to sell for £8m-£12m.
