S Africa companies look to China

As the world has focused on China’s courtship of Africa with its cheap loans and vast infrastructure projects, a handful of South African companies have embarked on a reverse mission, to invest in China.

According to government figures, South African investments there amount to about $400m. But the businesses, which have headed east have found no African “dividend.”
