Brown savages Tory schools policy

Gordon Brown on Tuesday launched an attack on the Conservatives’ belief in “market forces” as a means to raise school standards, in a left-leaning speech intended to shore up morale among deeply disillusioned Labour MPs.

The prime minister used an education speech to signal he remained focused on policy and would take the fight to the Tories, in spite of last week’s humbling setbacks in the Commons.
