Jack Straw is one of the great survivors of the Labour government, serving as foreign secretary throughout the Iraq war having spent Tony Blair’s first term as home secretary.

Once regarded as a Blair loyalist, he has in recent years become a close ally of Mr Brown and served as his campaign manager for the Labour leadership.
