Tory threat to pension reform consensus

The Conservatives will not vote for the government’s new system of personal pension saving accounts if the plans retain their existing “structural flaw”, Chris Grayling, the Conservative pension spokesman, has told the Financial Times.

Peter Hain, the work and pensions secretary, and Mike O’Brien, the pensions minister, are anxious to retain what up to now has been a widespread political consensus over the new pension scheme.
