Africa-EU tariff proposal raises concerns

East African countries would rapidly open their markets to European Union exports under a draft agreement with Brussels, raising fears that their companies will have too little time to adjust.

A draft copy of the proposed economic partnership agreement between the EU and the East African Community – a grouping of Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi and Rwanda – shows the African countries proposing to cut import tariffs on nearly two-thirds of their trade within two years.
