An entrepreneurial new business soon grows out of the start-up stage. At this point, a number of management issues must be tackled and in-house skills - or the lack of them - can become a pressing problem. The young business may have got used to running as an “all-hands-to-the-pump” operation. But now it is turning into a professional concern that must be managed and staffed by teams of people with relevant skills.
Lack of access to a skilled workforce has consistently been cited as the main curb on growth by IC100 companies: 33 per cent in 2001; 29 per cent in 2004.
