Water metering becomes compulsory

Water meters are to become compulsory for the first time for tens of thousands of households in the south-east, in a move that may herald the introduction of compulsory meters in other areas of the country.

The government on Wednesday granted permission for the Folkestone and Dover Water Services company to require the 65,000 households it serves to have meters.
