Cameroon has accused Nigeria of "repeated aggression" last week against its troops in the disputed Bakassi peninsula, which is thought to have large oil reserves, and said it would refer the matter to the United Nations.
Nigeria's defence ministry denied that any shots had been fired and said the reported death of a Cameroonian soldier had probably occurred in clashes between Nigerian fishermen and Cameroon troops.
