Congratulations to Chris Davies, leader of the British Liberal Democrats in the European parliament, for sending the most premature congratulatory message following the Italian elections.

On Monday afternoon, just hours after the polling stations closed, Davies sent out a press release titled "arrivederci Berlusconi", comparing the prime minister's electoral defeat against Romano Prodi to "the lancing of a boil".
