Germany: Glashütte’s horological past comes in from the cold

The German watch industry is in good heart, but not of course expanding at a fierce rate at present.

At this year’s Baselworld trade fair there were 180 German exhibitors of watches, jewellery, silverware, machines and related accessories. Exports by the watch, clock and jewellery sector for 2008 stood at €1bn ($1.4bn), up from €929m the previous year, according to BV Schmuck and Uhren, the industry’s trade body.
