M&S shareholders give Sir Stuart dressing down in promotion vote

Marks and Spencer shareholders gave Sir Stuart Rose a bloody nose yesterday when more than a fifth of those voting refused to support his elevation to executive chairman.

In one of the biggest protest votes in recent City history, 22 per cent of the voting shareholder base abstained or opposed his re-election to the board, making clear their displeasure at its decision to merge the chairman and chief executive roles.
