Yasuo Fukuda, who is set to take over as Japan’s prime minister on Tuesday after winning the leadership of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, filled top party posts on Monday as a prelude to naming his cabinet.
Mr Fukuda, a soft-spoken 71-year-old who beat the more nationalist Taro Aso in Sunday’s contest, picked party faction leaders to take the LDP’s three top jobs and another veteran to coordinate election strategy. All four men are in their 60s and supported Mr Fukuda in the leadership race.
