Two rural councils in the Yorkshire Dales have gone further than most in making savings – by sharing a chief executive.
Since April, Richmondshire and Hambleton district councils, based in Richmond and Northallerton respectively, have employed Peter Simpson jointly as part of efforts to cut up to £500,000 annually from their £20m budget by 2013. The councils have 800 staff serving a combined population of about 150,000.
