Beijing probes abuses linked to Olympics

The organisers of the Beijing Olympic Games are investigating allegations of child labour and other abuses following a report by an international labour alliance on poor working conditions in Chinese factories making merchandise for the Games.

“The use of child labour is illegal and the Beijing Olympic organising committee abides by all laws and regulations,” said Jiang Xiaoyu, executive vice-president of the organising committee, which licenses manufacturers to produce official merchandise for the 2008 Games.
