Warning on student numbers in England

The era of sharp growth in student numbers may be drawing to a close as tight public finances curb expansion plans, the man in charge of government funding for English universities has told the FT.

Sir Alan Langlands’ comments underline the tough challenge that teenagers will face, as the relentless rise in student applications conflicts with the financial austerity of the post-credit crunch age.
