Supermarkets eclipse specialists in sales of medicines and make-up

The advance of grocers into the world of general merchandise was underlined today as it emerged that four out of the top five sellers of medicines and beauty products across Britain are now supermarket chains rather than high street specialists.

Stores such as Superdrug, Lloydspharmacy and The Body Shop have been eclipsed by supermarkets as the big chains expand further into toiletries, skin creams and make-up.
