Paulson calls on Beijing to bolster value of renminbi

Hank Paulson, the US Treasury secretary, called on China yesterday to strengthen its currency amid deepening fears about the effects of a plunge in the renminbi's value.

Speaking ahead of a trip to Beijing, Mr Paulson called on the country to maintain its policy of encouraging the currency to appreciate against the dollar.
