Magnetism can flow like electricity, British scientists have shown, in an experiment with profound implications for theoretical physics and perhaps for technology too.

Researchers from the London Centre for Nanotechnology generated “magnetricity”, the movement through a crystal of atom-sized magnetic charges that behave just like electric charges. Their experiment, published in the journal Nature, is the first to demonstrate the flow of a purely magnetic current.
