That aching space on the wall is haunting, the very fact that there's nothing there making it impossible to ignore. But finding the right canvas can be difficult and it's better to leave a blank than resort to a stopgap that just doesn't work with the decor. Ideally it would be filled with something eyecatching and stylish, something that is personal without being kitsch, something that is truly unique, something like DNA art (www.dnaartuk.com).

The totally individual pictures in the DNAPortrait range are created using the genetic material at the core of each human being's existence. The process starts with the subject scraping the inside of their cheek with a cotton swab to collect a sample. It is then sent to a Dutch laboratory, where it is treated to produce a banded genetic "map". This is photographed and coloured to produce the image for the artwork, printed on to high-quality canvas and then stretched on to a wooden frame ready for hanging.
