US hopeful on UK arms exports treaty

The US administration hopes that a treaty aimed at easing the export of arms and defence technologies to Britain will be ratified by the US Senate by the end of the year, the US State Department said on Monday.

The US and Britain signed in July a ground-breaking treaty allowing for the export of US defence equipment to Britain without the need for an export licence for each separate piece of equipment or technology.
