Congress divided over stimulus package

The passage of an economic stimulus package for the US economy entered its most difficult phase on Wednesday night after the Senate finance committee approved a version with key differences to one agreed by the House of Representatives and White House.

The development could spark friction with the House and between senators of both parties when the two chambers confer on a final version, possibly delaying eventual passage. Top lawmakers have said this is possible by February 15.
