They don't mince their words in Pendle

The assurance from Francis Maude, Conservative chairman, that his party will not impose "mincing metrosexuals" on "gritty northern" seats drew a dire reception from one of those constituencies yesterday.

Tonia Barton, chairman of the Conservative association in Pendle, Lancashire, told the FT: "I don't know which phrase is worse - they're both completely insulting to both sets of people."
