Notorious Khmer Rouge jailer seeks acquittal

The former Khmer Rouge cadre on trial for running the regime’s most notorious prison yesterday unexpectedly asked judges to acquit him of crimes against humanity, war crimes, murder and torture

Kaing Guek Eav, better known by his nom de guerre Duch, oversaw S-21, a jail housed in a former high school in the Cambodian capital where some 15,000 men, women and children were tortured before being killed.
