London-based Greek shipowners are preparing to move their operations abroad in response to the government's planned tax crackdown on non-domiciled foreigners living in the UK, bankers and owners have told the Financial Times.
Under the UK government plans, non-domiciled foreigners who have been resident for seven years will have a choice of paying a £30,000 ($58,000, €40,000) fee if they want to continue claiming the remittance basis. If they do not pay the fee, they will pay normal UK tax on worldwide income and gains.
