Are women inherently more altruistic than men?

The question has long exercised equal rights campaigners, who argue that the idea is merely an excuse for low pay in the caring professions. Meanwhile, academics have wondered how western societies will cope with the decline in women’s traditional willingness to look after others. But today’s survey of graduate employment choices seems to suggest that female altruism is alive and well in the jobs market.
